Warner Bros. has announced that they will be releasing Harry Potter for Kinect this fall.
The game will be based around all 8 Harry Potter films and will allow players to join Harry Potter, Hermoine, and Ron at Hogwarts. In past games, players have been able to cast spells and play the game using a wand peripheral which was usually included with the game. Now using Kinect technology, they have been able to do away with the wand and add some interesting features.
Using the Kinect camera, players will be able to scan their faces and create a unique playable wizard or witch. Before the Kinect, “face scan” characters usually involved uploading a photo of yourself to the console and the game pasting it onto a wireframe so it came out looking creepy. From the looks of the announcement trailer, it looks like the developers were smart in not trying to duplicate your face, but instead create similar features using your scan.
Along with putting your face into the game, players will use the Kinect sensor to cast spells using physical movements and by calling out spell names.
I’ve never been too much of a Harry Potter games fan. The wand always seemed so gimmicky, but this is one game that definitely looks like it was made for the Kinect and if developed right, could be a fun game! Check out the announcement trailer below.
